Around Brisbane

Some of our many tours that start in Brisbane, have fun looking

nudgee beach

Brisbane surprises us.. it took us time to find Nudgee beach and can be reached by cycle from the CBD .. most on a cycle path. Perhaps not a typical image of a Queensland beach and for that you need to go south to the The Gold Coast which can be reached in less than an hour by car.

If you venture north you can reach the Sunshine Coast in a similar time. At the north end of the Sunshine Coast is Noosa.

Another excellent trip from Brisbane is to Stradbroke Island. Bribie Island is about 50 minutes drive north of Brisbane and has good beaches.

A bit closer to the city are the bayside villages of Manly and Sandgate and all connected on the Moreton Bay Cycle Way that is being constructed to run from the Northern areas right down to the South.

Inland is the Somerset Region with the Lake Somerset and Lake Wivenhoe.

Byron Bay
The trendy hippie style resort about 4 hours south of Brisbane in New South Wales.

Bribie Island
Bribie Island is less than an hour from Brisbane with a surf beach and connected to the mainland by a bridge across the Pumicestone Passage. If you have a boat there are ramps at Banksia Beach, Bongaree and at Brennan Park. Much of the island is protected as part of Bribie Island National Park. Camping on the beachfront is allowed in the National Park, as is taking your 4WD onto the beach, with a permit from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Fraser Island
About 4 hours north of Brisbane the largest sand island in the world.

Gold Coast
The eight lane freeway connecting Brisbane to the Gold Coast makes for a fast journey to reach the beach, theme parks and Gold Coast.

Glass House Mountains

Sixteen extinct volcanoes the highest being Mt Beerwah at 556 metres some of which you can scramble up are about an hour north of Brisbane and close to Australia Zoo at Beerwah.

Moreton Island
Smaller than Fraser Island and more developed and much closer to Brisbane. A main attraction is the wild dolphin feeding at Tangalooma resort each evening.

North Stradbroke Island

A popular and easy Brisbane retreat.
Saint Helena Island National Park
The site of Queensland's first penal settlement with ruins and remains of landscaped gardens. The Chief Warder's quarters have been restored. At the south end of the island is the old quarry, jetty and Queensland's first tramway.

Somerset Region

Where the big lakes are.

Springbrook National Park

A beautiful park in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Sunshine Coast
Caloundra is the nearest Sunshine Coast beach to Brisbane and will take about an hour. Mooloolaba has good surf with ocean view cafes. At the top of the Sunshine Coast is
Noosa. Inland is Australia zoo.
